Henry the Mischief Maker

If there is something for Henry to put in his mouth, it's going in his mouth. He puts eeeevvverthing he finds in his mouth. Everything in our house is covered in baby drool. His first two teeth popped through in early November, which was a painful week for all those involved. He woke up many times a night again for a few days -- it was like having a newborn all over. But he soon snapped back to his normal self with two new chompers to dig into anything his hands could grab.

Thanksgiving Madness

Thanksgiving was a long, long day for the Deery family. But like a recurring theme, Henry was a champ all day. It was great to see family and let everyone have the chance to enjoy the personality this little baby is developing. Even being passed off from person to person, kids running around him as he crawled on the floor, all the commotion, Henry just made his way around constantly curious. You can tell as much from the picture above, where we couldn't get Henry to look at the camera -- the dreaded rotating ceiling fan stole his attention for minutes straight.

Henry is Now Half a Year Old

While each post seems to be titled with how old Henry is, it's still hard to fathom that he has been around this long. He is now halfway to one year old -- it seems like just yesterday he was born.

Henry and the Minnesota State Fair

While Cadi and I were hesitant to visit the State Fair with Henry, we ended up making the decision to bring him along to see how he would do. We thought if he didn't do well we could always leave early. We just started putting him in the stroller without the carrier, so now he was sitting up like a "big boy," and he always has loved walks and being outside.
Our first test run sitting like a "big boy."
Well, on the way to the shuttle in Roseville, our decision to bring him seemed to be a very bad one. Henry didn't cry on the car ride there, he screamed, and screamed until we considered just turning the car around and calling the trip a loss. Once we got to Roseville High School and got him out of his carrier, he calmed down -- in fact, he was downright happy after that moment.

Henry is Four Months Old

Time flies when you're having fun. Henry is more active than ever and sure enjoys just about everything in life. It's remarkable how many times I've heard, "He is just the happiest baby!" We are two lucky parents to have such a great boy for our first child.

Henry's First Owie!

Not a day goes by that we (more specifically Mom) don't worry about something happening to Henry. I think it goes without saying every parent, aunt, grandparent, whomever wants nothing more than to keep the babies of the world safe. Unfortunately life happens.

Three Months Have Passed

We have already eclipsed three months in King Henry's life. He has grown so fast, he smiles all the time and has even started to laugh when he's in the best of moods. Because of all this, he has so many people who love him.

In the past month Henry finally figured out the whole rolling over thing. It took him a lot of miscues, but he finally figured it out. Funny enough, the first time he rolled over, neither Cadi or I even witnessed it. I put him down on his play mat on his back and left his nursery for a moment. Cadi came hurdling into our bedroom with Henry in hand and asked, "Did you put him on his stomach?" I replied, "No." Then we both realized the first time he rolled over there was no audience. Now he rolls over all the time, but he hates the end result. He hates being on his stomach and cries and fusses. But when you roll him to his back again, he bunches his legs up and tries to roll over again, and again. Babies, I tell ya.

Henry's First Independence Day

This day was mercilessly warm and even more humid. We started off the day going to a parade in Afton with Cadi's friend Hannah and Co., something that Henry slowly began to dislike as the summer sun and humid air made him more and more uncomfortable.

So naturally, we finished off the day in a pool. Though Henry had "swam" with Cadi before, this was the first time him and I got to "swim" together. And by "swim" I mean I held him in the water as I walked around; apparently two month old babies cannot swim.

Two Months Old Already

It's crazy how time flies; throughout your life you always hear parents say exactly that when talking about their kids. Seeing a newborn grow into a two month old and watching Henry change, and learn, and smile is really one of the biggest reminders of how fast time really does fly.

Henry is really starting to have his own personality, one of his strongest traits is stubbornness that he gets from his mother. :)

When Henry wants something, or doesn't want something, like a nap, he will let you know, passionately.

Pictures/Memories Through the First Month

Some of my favorite memories of being with Henry have been the usual fare, like watching him sleep, holding him as he takes in the world, watching people's eyes light up when they see him, smelling his clean baby smell after a bath and so much more.

But some of my favorite stories involve changing his diapers. Though in the moment, I would not be happy to call them favorites. Now, looking back, I cannot help but laugh. In Henry's first weeks of life, every third time or so that I changed his diaper he would pee everywhere. And it was only me he would pee on really; he rarely peed on Cadi (as the two of us were the only ones really changing him in those first weeks.) Even after I got wise to his ruse and put a wet wipe over his little willy, he would still find weaknesses in my defense and pee when opportunity knocked. Sometimes it was before I could get the wet wipe down, sometimes it was as I was pulling on the new diaper. Though he never laughed or really smiled because he was so young, I know he was entertaining himself.

King Henry Arrives in a Whirlwind

The past 48 hours have by far been the craziest hours of our short marriage. The days were filled with excitement, anticipation, heartfelt sorrow and finally, indescribable jubilation.

If you don't want to know the "gory" details, this is the part where you skip to the end.

Cadi Throughout the Pregnancy

Though we were not very consistent taking regular updated photos, Cadi and I captured a handful of good pics throughout her growth.

Due Date: Here We Come

April 11th is coming up fast -- baby Deery will be here very soon. Cadi and I are full of so many emotions, one of them excitement for what is to come.

The pregnancy has gone very well all while Cadi battled through her last two semesters of nursing school -- she just finished her most important requirements to graduate in May. She is a warrior. Baby and a graduation within a few weeks of each other.
